Maui - Day 1

After arriving in Maui at 9:30 pm, we went to Dale and Lisa Gustafson's to stay the night. They put us up in a wonderful guest area with a full kitchen, etc. Thanks, Dale and Lisa! The next morning we drove the famous "Road to Hana". The first place that we stopped was called Keanae Peninsula. The lava shores were very cool. I found a heart shaped piece of coral here (for those that don't know, I collect heart shaped rocks).

Would we go anywhere without the Diet Dr. Pepper?

Next we stopped at Waianapanapa where there was a blowhole and a black sand beach.

As you can see, the black "sand" was more like pebbles.

Cool trail with a tunnel of vines.

After more than 42 miles of twisty road, we arrived to Haleakala Park where we did a 4 mile hike to a Waimoku Waterfall.

The coolest part of the hike was an amazing bamboo forest.

As we walked through the babmboo forest, it began to rain and the wind picked up. The sound of the bamboo knocking against one another in the wind was like music being played as we walked. So surreal and definitely unforgettable!

Waimoku Falls is a 400 foot waterfall!

Geoff was the brave one to go in.

Lastly, we went to see the famous Seven Pools at Oheo Gulch.
