Tyler and Cole both participated in the Grizzly Family Fun day and Walkathon at Guadalupe. Tyler ran/walked 40 laps and Cole did 25 laps.

Tour of Mix 106.5

Tyler's cubscout group got to tour Mix 106.5. Each boy got to put his voice on a recording and hear how they could manipulate the sound afterward. Even Cole got to be one of the scouts for the day.

San Francisco Giants

We went to watch an exhibition game between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's. It was Tyler and Cole's first experience at AT&T park.

Happy Hollow

I took the boys to Happy Hollow since we had an inservice day. We ran into some friends from Cole's class there.

Petroglyph

Melissa and I took the boys to Petroglyph to paint pottery. Tyler decided to make a plate for my mom's birthday.

Cole chose to make a rainbow plate. They both designed and painted their own plates.

Missing Tooth

Tyler finally lost one of his top teeth. It was wiggly for such a long time, then one Friday at Kids Club, it finally fell out! We went to the office to get a tooth necklace container where the kids can store their tooth. Tyler dropped his tooth in the office. I was on hands and knees searching for it. Even the principal came out and was on hands and knees searching! Finally, the secretary, Rita found the tooth! Thank goodness!

Pampered Pup

The boys were so happy to see Milo when we got home from our Tahoe trip, and of course, Milo was so happy to see them as well. Here they are with Milo after they had given him a pillow for his head and a blanket to keep him warm.

First Ski Trip

We decided it was time for the boys to try out skiing. We went up to Tahoe during the Winter Break and rented skis. The boys are all geared up here and can't wait to try out skiing!

We went to Homewood. Here we are in the parking lot getting ready to hit the slopes.

We went to the top of the smallest bunny slope. We quickly learned that this was not the best way to teach the boys. Both were in tears and wanted to give up within the first 5 minutes! Geoff got Cole down to the bottom, but Tyler was too frustrated to move. After a nice Dr. Pepper break on the slope, and a pep talk from Geoff, Tyler was ready to try to make it to the bottom as well. Here's Cole making his way down.

We then practiced at the bottom of another bunny slope just sort of gliding for a few feet at a time. This put Tyler in a much better mood! Cole, of course, immediately went back up on the slopes with Geoff.

By the end of the day the boys loved skiing and had no problem with the bunny slopes. They even started going up without us! We decided to come back for another day. We had beautiful weather which was very fortunate since a huge storm hit the day after!

We warmed up with the bunny slopes again....

Then took the boys up the big chair lift. We went to the top of "Rabbit Ridge".

The boys skiied down all the way from the top several times! Mostly beginning runs with intermediate stretches. I fell many more times than they did. I think it won't be long before they've passed me up in their skiing abilities!

Making Birdhouses Wtih Papa

Valentine's Day

I made heart-shaped toast for Valentine's Day breakfast.

100th Day of School

February 2 was the 100th day of school! The classes do different things to celebrate. I made a 100th day of school breakfast in the shape of 100 with cantaloupe and english muffins.

Cole even got a 100th day lunch made of soysauce with sugar and mochi.

Disco Day at Guadalupe

Harlem Globetrotters

Tyler's cubscout group got to go see the Harlem Globetrotters.

They even got to go out on the court for the National Anthem.

At one point the scouts all went back to the locker rooms and Tyler got his hat signed by the Globetrotters.

Basketball Season Has Begun!

Cole decided to play basketball this year through Calvary. Tyler didn't want to play this year. It's our first experience with basketball. Cole had a blast!

As usual we had a busy, but very fun Christmas. We opened presents Christmas morning. Here's Milo with his new toy.

Then we headed over to my parents house for breakfast and more presents. The boys were very excited about BeyBlade this year.

After my parents' house, we headed over to Geoff's parents' house for more presents and brunch.

Christmas Eve

We went to see Geoff's mom sing at Menlo Presbyterian Church on December 23. It was a beautiful service, and it may be the last year that she sings in the choir since it seems that they are dissolving the current choir. On Christmas Eve, we went to Keri and Dean's house for a delicious feast!

Ladies' Night Out

I got to go out to dinner with friends from the class of '89 from back in the Calvary Youth group days! Beth was in town all the way from Chicago. So fun to get together with the ladies!

Polar Express Party

The entire first grade had Polar Express parties in their classrooms. They got bells to wear around their necks and "tickets" to ride the polar express. They decorated holiday cookies and made lifesaver trains and got to wear their pajamas to school!

Kindergarten Christmas Performance

The kindergarten classes put on a little Christmas Performance. They sang songs and did a little dance. Cole was so happy to have his grandparents and auntie Miki come to see him perform.

He was very proud of his Christmas hat that he sewed himself with a REAL needle!

Cole sang and danced the Hanukkah song. He had been singing all week and loved playing the dreidel game with Tyler at home.

Kid's Club Christmas Performance

Venture Church sponsors a Christian club at Guadalupe called Kids' Club. It meets every Friday after school. At Christmas time, they put on a little performance. The first graders sang Silent Night in Spanish! Tyler was proud to have all four grandparents AND auntie Miki there!

106.5 Merry Mixer

I won tickets to Mix 106.5's "Merry Mixer". It's a free concert at the Campbell Heritage Theater.

We got to see Angel Taylor. I only recognized one of her songs, but she was good.

American Idol winner, Lee Dewyze. He was great!

And the Plain White T's. They were also really good.

Christmas at Tivo

Every year, Tivo has a family day at Christmas time where the families can come out to see Santa.

They got a quick picture and had to quickly tell Santa what they'd like for Christmas since the line was so long! Tyler wanted BeyBlade and Cole wanted a double lightsaber.

Then they get to decorate gigantic Tivo cookies.

He hasn't even eaten it yet, but you can see the excitement in Tyler's eyes!

Los Gatos Christmas Parade

Each year I ask the boys if they would like to watch the Christmas Parade or be in the parade. Each year they say watch the parade. This year, Tyler said watch the parade and Cole said be in the parade. Tyler, then quickly changed his answer to be in the parade. Cole was in the parade with the AWANA group from Calvary. He got to ride in a DUCK. I forget what it stands for, but it's a military vehicle that goes on land and water! Basically like a tank on land and a boat in the water.

Tyler was in the parade with his cub scout group. He's the one third in from the right. Their them was the polar express, so they all wore their pajamas.

Train Exhibit

My parents invited us to go see a train exhibit at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. The boys have an enormous Lionel Train set under the tree this year so they were excited to see the trains.

Getting the Tree

Our tradition has been to go to the Santa Cruz mountains the day after Thanksgiving to cut down a Christmas tree.

Thanksgiving 2010

We hosted Thanksgiving in our home this year for our families. It was so nice to have both sides of the family gathered together.

Tyler made the turkey centerpiece for the kids' table.

Geoff's sister actually made that chocolate torte with the raspberries!

Grandparents Day

Guadalupe has Grandparents Day each year. Tyler and Cole were looking forward to having their grandparents visit their classrooms.

Cole was lucky enough to have 4 grandparents visit him in the Kindergarten room.

Cole's teacher asked if Geoff's dad would "adopt" another one of the kids who didn't have any visitors. It just happened to be the girl that Cole refers to as his girlfriend!

After Cole's room, the grandparents headed over to Tyler's classroom and cousin Anya's classroom.

There were games, snacks, etc.

We are continually blessed by our parents. The boys are so lucky to have grandparents that are so near by and so involved in their lives!

Fire Station Tour

Tyler's cub scout group got to take a tour of a fire station near the San Jose Airport. They actually got to ride in the truck and see the water pumper pump. They also got to help hold the fire hose.

Lake Tahoe

The boys had Veterans Day off as well as a teacher in-service day which made for a 4 day weekend. Geoff took time off and we headed up to Tahoe. We stayed at our friend's cabin (thank you, Ould family!). We spent the first night at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe. We swam at the indoor pool and went to see Megamind at the theaters.

The next day we headed for the cabin to play in the snow!

And the boys "helped" Geoff build a huge snowman. Step 1....

The next day we played in the snow at Alpine. It was like having our own private hill! Geoff built a huge sledding run on the hill. The boys had so much fun!

A favorite in Tahoe is always skipping rocks on the lake, so we went down to the lake to do some rock skipping.

We loved our little getaway! Although Geoff went to the cabin all throughout high school and part of college, this was the boys' first time there!

Belated Birthday Dinner

Giants Day!

Guadalupe decided to celebrat the Giants' amazing World Series victory by declaring Friday, November 5, 2010, Giants Day. The students all got to dress up in their Giants gear. Lucky for us, Tyler was on the Giants with t-ball for 2 years in a row so he had an extra uniform for Cole!

Halloween

Guadalupe does a little parade at the school so the kids can show off their costumes to one another. Tyler was Cole was Ironman and Tyler was spiderman this year.

Tivo Family Halloween Party

Each year Tivo invites the families of the employees to come to Tivo for yummy treats, etc. This year they even had their own little pumpkin patch and the kids got to bring a pumpkin home.

Johnson Farm Field Trip

Tyler's first first grade field trip was to Johnson Farm in Boulder Creek.

Farmer Rob was super funny while also educational. He's showing the kids a woodpecker's nest.

It was extremely warm, so the kids used the giant sunflower leaves for shade!

St. Mary's Faire

Each year the boys love going to the St. Mary's Faire!

They both have their hands up! They are getting very adventurous!

This bungee thing was one of their favorites of the day!

They even went on stage to learn how to lasso!

Game Ball!

Tyler definitely had an up and down season with soccer this year. He started out overwhelmed by the pressure of the game. He always wanted to win and wanted to score goals and got very upset if he didn't. He then decided it was better to always pass the ball to avoid the stress of having the ball, but was not enjoying it still. Then, while Geoff and I were away on vacation, Tyler had the game of his life! Something switched in his brain and he was intense, but not overwhelmed. He scored a couple goals and assisted with some goals as well. At the end of the game, he got the "game ball" which they award to one player at the end of the game. The look on his face says it all. Thank you, to auntie Miki for getting the shot since we weren't able to see the game!

Salinas Airshow

We had such a great time last year, we decided to go to the Salinas Airshow again. This year they had some Monster Trucks. The boys were very impressed!

Cub Scouts

Tyler joined Cub Scouts this year. He is in the Tiger Den. His first thing to do was sell popcorn. We went door to door in our neighborhood. He's quite the little salesman!

Disneyland

3 days at Disneyland was a great way to end our summer. We absolutely loved the World of Color water show. We saw it 2 times!

You can't tell in the picture, but while we were waiting in line for the Nemo ride, we found a hole in the rock that was Cole-shaped!

Tyler AND Cole were selected for Jedi training. This is the first time that they were even willing to volunteer. I think it helped that they were wearing matching Darth Tater shirts!

The trainer was telling Cole that when he does the part of the "routine" where he strikes the head of Darth Vader he might have to reach a little bit higher.

Geoff and I had never been to Tom Sawyer's Island. We took the boys and they had a blast exploring.

Cole and Tyler both went on roller coasters for the first time and loved it! Here's Geoff and Cole on Thunder Mountain.

We took the boys down south to go to Disneyland and Legoland. It was our first time at Legoland.

Tivo Family Carnival

Every year Tivo has a family carnival in the summer. This year they had a baby white tiger cub that the kids could take a picture with.

Then they gave them little white stuffed animal tigers.

They loved the giant shark slide.

And of course, all the yummy food!

Camping at Sunset Beach

We did a one night camping trip with our neighbors, the Deitschs. We spent the first part of the day at Capitola where Geoff helped the kids build a sand castle.

The kids loved running through the seagulls and collecting seashells at Sunset Beach.

We even found a geocache while we were there.

A Visit from the Other Griffins

Geoff's brother's family came out from Montana for his Granny's memorial service. It was a beautiful, uplifting service and a wonderful week spent with extended family. We celebrated our niece, Natalie's, 16th birthday.

Tyler and Cole even got to go to the Tech Museum one day with their Uncle Greg and cousins, Matt and Heidi.

Lake Tahoe

Thanks to our friends, the Oulds, we got to go to Tahoe for a few days without the boys. We attended a beautiful wedding while we were there and took a few beautiful hikes. These pictures are from Eagle Falls.

Obon Festival

Every year we take the boys to the Obon Festival in Japantown in downtown San Jose. We love to hear SJ Taiko perform, but also stand in line for an hour just for the yummy Hawaiian shave ice!

Exploratorium

Camping at Sunset Beach

Tyler and Cole got their first real camping experience at Sunset State Beach campgrounds. We went for just one night to try it out.

Of course, they couldn't wait to try out their sleeping bags!

Tree House - Phase 1

The Bubble Lady

For the library's summer reading program, they have different shows for the kids each Wednesday. We went and saw the "bubble lady". She did amazing stuff with just bubbles and the boys had a blast!

Summer of Bowling

The bowling alley near Oakridge is doing a summer kids' club where kids get to bowl a game a day for free. We tried it out and have been bowling almost everyday! Both Tyler and Cole can get over 100 (with the bumpers up).

Milo's Beach Day

We decided to take Milo with us for a family beach day. He loved being a part of the "sand castle".

After the last day of school, my mom and I took the boys to Gizdich Ranch to pick strawberries. This has become a new tradition of ours. I love having fresh strawberries and making strawberry freezer jam!

Kids Love Soccer

Cole took a session of soccer classes offered by Kids Love Soccer. At the end they do a little scrimmage, and I soon saw that he's got some natural skill! At this point Cole had already scored a few times for his "team" so you'll see that the coach actually tries to help out the green team by kicking it away from him.

Last Day of Kindergarten

Tyler's teacher had the parents come the last day of school so that she could present each child with their poetry binder. It was a little ceremony of sorts. Can't believe how fast the year went!

Olympic Day

Last Day of Preschool

LGPNS Train Trip

Our preschool has done a Caltrain field trip every year with the entire school. We missed it the last 2 years because we were out of town, so we were sure to make it this year!

Cole finished his second year in Cubbies. He was very proud of memorizing all of the verses and getting a blue ribbon!

Although we went to the preview opening of Happy Hollow, it was so crowded, it was difficult to enjoy it, so one Friday after school we headed over to the newly remodeled park. We especially wanted to ride the new Danny the Dragon train, but yet again, it was not running!

This statue reminded us of Milo.
They had a scavenger hunt with Safari Sam, the new mascot of Happy Hollow. We had to search for letters hidden around the park, then unscramble them to solve the riddle. The winners got free icees. We won!

When we were leaving we decided to check out the Japanese Gardens. I hadn't been since I was little.

Spring Break - Gilroy Gardens

Friday we went to Gilroy Gardens. They are celebrating their 10th birthday so they had a treasure hunt that day. Tyler and Cole really enjoyed that part. They even got a goodie bag when they were done.

Thursday we went to the Children's Discovery Museum. They had some science activities having to do with the environment that day. Here's Tyler trying to fit as many drops of water on a penny as possible. He got 19!

Spring Break - Great America

Tuesday we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but I forgot my camera! Wednesday we went to Great America. They now have Snoopy and the other Charlie Brown characters at the park.

Every day of Spring Break we did a different day trip. Monday we went to the Tech Museum with my parents.

This was the favorite activity of the day.

We went to church at Calvary with Miki and my parents on Easter morning. We heard a very moving testimony. Afterward, we went to Keri and Dean's for Easter lunch and an egg hunt.

Milo often likes to rest his hip on the couch when we pet him. Lately he's been taking liberties with this move (by the way, the cone is due to his seasonal allergies!).

Easter Eggs

One of our Easter traditions! We love dyeing our Easter eggs. Unfortunately, I did not cook them long enough and we ended up with runny eggs instead of hardboiled! I reboiled them, but of course, the dye came off and they all ended up a shade of pink. Good thing I got a couple of pictures!

Tooth Fairy

Tyler lost his first tooth at 6 1/2 years old! The adult tooth started coming in before he lost the tooth, so it's hard to tell that he even lost one! The tooth was hanging on by a thread, then one Sunday afternoon I noticed that it was gone! I asked Tyler what happened to his tooth? He said, "What do you mean?" We think he may have swallowed it with his lunch! After a few tears, I reassured Tyler that the tooth fairy would still come. We wrote her a nice letter explaining what had happened. Sure enough, she visited that evening and even wrote a nice note back!

We went for the Grand Opening Members Preview Day of Happy Hollow. Tyler and Cole had been eagerly awaiting this day! Tyler barely fits in the mini putt putt cars now!
